And if you dinked with your PF file settings, put them back to Windows managed. The only other thing I might suggest is to make sure you have lots of free disk space on your drive. If you get out of memory errors while doing other things, then you might have other problems, but with only SB-S&D, the problem is with SB-S&D.

If for some reason you think you need SB-S&D on top of ESET and MBAM (and again, I don't see why) then I would still uninstall it, reboot, and install the latest version again and see what happens. It is only the annoying alert and I wish to keep Defender as it is the most decent thing Microsoft did or at least I believe. Please bear in mind that Spybot is running. yes, Warning from Windows Action Center as mentioned. If me, I would uninstall SB-S&D, reboot, may sure Windows is fully updated and call it a day. I think that is a bunch of bull - especially since it wants you to download and run their "Spybot Error During Check Out Of Memory Repair Tool". I found another link that suggests your Windows installation is corrupt. I stopped using that way back in 2009 when I migrated away from XP and to W7. That suggests to me the problem is with SB-S&D. I'm hoping it's removal will allow Spybot to complete a full spyware scan.
I'm visiting my friend again this Tuesday (3/22), to try again, and I am hoping, though I think it is a longshot, that the trojan horse was preventing Spybot from finishing it's scan. He called me later and stated that Norton Internet Security 2005 had detected & removed a trojan horse.that was the only threat detected (Norton Internet Security did NOT detect the 40 forms of spyware that Spybot had picked up).

I was unsure how to proceed, so I reverted back prior to the Spybot installation, and then had my friend run a full Norton virus scan, as I had to depart from his home, and couldn't wait for the results. I then restarted, created another System Restore Point, and then installed/updated/ran Spybot again, only to have it lockup once again at the same point. I had taken the precaution, however, of creating a Windows System Restore point before installing Spybot, so I reverted back prior to installing Spybot. Spybot had detected about 40 forms of spyware at that point, but unfortunately I didn't write them down. And some enterprises are responding in a predictable manner, banning unauthorized software and. I patiently waited until it was obvious Spybot wasn't going any further, and then opened the Task Manager to see that Spybot was not responding. Spybot would freeze up about three-quarters the way through, (according to the status bar).
I uninstalled Spybot and reinstalled again today. Also, now Internet Explorer/google has frozen up on me. I then proceeded with a Spybot spyware scan.all went well, until. 6 Spybot won't SCAN I downloaded Spybot yesterday and every time I click on it to run a scan, nothing happens. I then restarted, and installed Spybot Search & Destroy 1.3 with no problems, then logged on & downloaded the latest Spybot updates. His Internet provider is dial-up Earthlink, and I successfully installed Norton Internet Security 2005 on his machine, & ran Live Update. His processor is 2 GHz +, with loads of hard drive space, and I believe 384 MB RAM.
I'm helping a friend install security software on his Windows XP PC.
